Bringing 38 permanently affordable units to the evolving Boulder Junction neighborhood, Ciclo combines retail and residence to create a mixed-use building that meets the needs of the community at large. Through delicate management of various stakeholder requirements, Element Properties’ multifaceted approach unlocked the city’s desire for environmentally friendly and socially conscious development. Element was tasked with designing a project that meets the City of Boulder’s stringent community revitalization plans by ensuring Ciclo is an energetic and appealing place that features a myriad of uses, including employment, retail and affordable housing. The three-story building’s energy efficiency exceeds the requirements of the City’s energy code, and a 50 kW rooftop solar array will generate on-site renewable energy to benefit the residential component of the building and offset well over half of the projected residential energy demand. Through the seamless fusion of retail, office and residential spaces, Element aims to ensure that many future generations of Boulder residents will benefit from Ciclo’s affordable housing in Boulder’s most transit-oriented area.
